The lupusNational Conference took place at Stoke-on-Trent on Sunday 10th May 2009. The cost was £15.00/person which included lunch and refreshments and hosted some excellent speakers. If you want to learn more about lupus and meet other sufferers, then this is meet to attend. Bookings for these annual events can be made by contacting LupusUK. (The National Conference in 2010 will be held at Harrogate on 9th May).
The Mansfield Half Marathon and fun run took place on Sunday 28th June. The half maraton started at 10:00 am and finished on the running track in Berry Hill Park. We were given permission from the organisers to hold a Lupus information stand and a tombola to raise funds. We requested our members to support our runners both financially and vocally and for those who responded you have our sincere thanks.
The East Midlands Group had a information/tombola stall at Mansfield Charity market on Friday 31st July. The market is held annually and gives local charities/support groups the oportunity to distribute information, answer queries and hopefully raise funds. (We are planning to repeat this event in June 2010).
A charity dance extaviganza took place on the 7th August at Mapperley Plains Social Club, Mapperley, Nottingham, to raise funds on the behalf of Lupus UK & Marie Curie Cancer Care. The event organiser Cleon (crossbodyleads.com) and his team put on an excellent night of entertainment in memory of a very close friend. Both of the charities talked to the audience and informed them about the respective diseases and their aims. (Cleon will be repeating this event on 6th August 2010).
A charity dinner was held in Nottingham in November by a lupus sufferer which raised over £500.0 for our group. The donation will be forwarded to LupusUK. (Charmaine is hoping to repeat this event again during 2010).
